Currently occupied by a bar/restaurant chain with a separate gym to the rear, 95-97 Clapham High Street sits on the southern side of the road and extends south along St Luke’s Avenue. The bar/restaurant is accessed from Clapham High Street, with a predominantly glass frontage. To the south, the gym is situated in a low-rise commercial building that presents an unattractive frontage along St Luke’s Avenue.
While many of the neighbouring high street properties are commercial units, the area to the south and east of the site is predominantly residential. The iconic Mary Seacole Centre – directly to the east of the site – houses Clapham Library, with seven residential storeys above. To the south along St Luke’s Avenue, Victorian townhouses add to the local area’s rich and varied architecture.
The current uses of the site offer little community benefit beyond the existing evening and night-time uses, while there is a wide variety of restaurants and bars within a short distance. The frontage along St Luke’s Avenue is dated and unattractive, offering little to the current streetscape.
